TEANGA, TIMPEALLACHT AGUS TALAMH

Thank you to everyone who came to our Sing For Your Supper event as part of Ballybunion Arts Festival.

We had such a wonderful evening of song and culture in Gaeilge (Irish), English, Polish and Yкраїнська (Ukrainian) in the style of the traditional rambling Irish house at The Barna Way.

Thanks to everyone who contributed a song or poem especially the wonderful Ballybunion Singing Group, The Echoes. There was a lot of emotion in the evening especially as we sang together for the elm and ash trees on the land. Kathy taught us a beautiful mantra for Mother Earth.

True to the spirit of reciprocity, everyone was invited to share a song or creative offering, relating to nature, in return for delicious food created from the land with plant based chef Lily Toomey. Thanks to Danny Scanlon for the delicious potatoes and The Barna Way for beets, courgettes, salads and a tasty carrot top pesto.

Thanks to our collaborator Danny Houlihan for all the historical insights on the walk to The Barna Way… telling us about the history of food production in this area of North Kerry and pointing out ring forts, Fulacht Fias and the fact that this area was once covered in forest and huge oak trees.
