About Us
Brilliant Ballybunion is working with Community Collaborators to grow food, protect habitats and create a vision for the future, in the context of taking climate action and protecting biodiversity.
This project has multiple elements in terms of creating long term transformative change in 4 stages:
Information; Exploration; Inspiration and Expression.
Brilliant Ballybunion is one of 19 large scale IGNITE projects funded under the Creative Climate Fund through Creative Ireland.
Being Creative
The project will work with the lead artist Lisa Fingleton through a series of drawing with nature interventions in Ballybunion and at The Barna Way. The community will have the opportunity to explore issues relating to climate change and biodiversity loss through journaling and various forms of creative expression. Lisa will co-create projects with the community.
Growing Food
Fridays on the Farm will provide an opportunity for the community to grow, share and preserve food with Rena Blake at The Barna Way. Brilliant Ballybunion will explore alternative spaces for growing, including creating edible landscapes.
Protecting Nature
The project will work with Dr Joanne O’Brien to deliver a Wild About Life programme. She will create experiences that connect the community to the creatures living under the sea and around the town through bio-recording, biodiversity mapping, cliff walks and land monitoring. Ballybunion is at the mouth of the Shannon estuary which is a SAC, home to a large colony of bottlenose dolphins. It is one of only 10 protected sites in Europe.
